“Never in our lifetime has there been a more desperate need for constructive and committed dialogue, among individuals, among communities, among cultures, among and between nations.”
The purpose of Model United Nations Illinois is to create an atmosphere in which delegates are exposed to the international issues of today. Through diplomatic discussion, debate, and parliamentary sessions, delegates interact with one another to reach consensus and draft resolutions with the aim of improving our world. As citizens of our global community, we all have a responsibility to collaborate with others and improve the conditions of the world. Model United Nations Illinois is a forum in which such cooperation is both fostered and encouraged.
To register with Model United Nations at the University of Illinois please complete the following steps:
For your convenience, Model United Nations Illinois is only charging delegate fees this year. Such fees cover conference operations, transportation, and venue costs. Due to the variation of member states available across the simulations, MUNI is switching to charging per-Delegate fees only this year to reduce confusion and conserve your valuable time and energy! Schools are strongly encouraged to request additional countries to fill available positions in special simulations. Conference fees are as follows:
Regular Registration
School Deposit: $100 (counts toward total fees)
Early Registration Delegate Fees: $45
Regular Registration Delegate Fees: $50
(Please note that Regular Registration begins February 25, 2010)
Please see the About page to learn more about MUNI XV dates, fees, and hotel accomodations. Visit the Committees page to learn more about the available committees and topics -- Background Guides may also be found here in the coming weeks. Please see the Country Availability page to view the list of available countries in each committee to help with your country selection.
Upon sending the Statement of Interest and Information Form, you will be contacted within 48 hours with a confirmation email and phone call. The confirmation notice will include information regarding how the registration assurance deposit can be sent to us, as well as how to register hotel rooms under the MUN discount.
It is then up to you to send the registration assurance deposit to us. This is a flat $100 fee and will later be applied to your delegate fees. MUNI has very limited space, so this portion of the process is critical in securing a position in the conference. Please submit your deposit as early as possible.
Once we receive the deposit, we will create your online delegate roster. You'll be given a unique username and password along with a link to the MUNI roster application. From that link you'll be able to input delegates’ names, choose their committees, and add other information relevant to the process.
Model United Nations Illinois has come a long way. From a fledgling conference of one committee and thirty delegates fourteen years ago, MUNI now accommodates five hundred students in ten committees and is hosted by a staff of sixty.
Through the years, we’ve moved from the Illini Union to classrooms and instructional space. This year, we have access to exclusive College of Business conference-style instructional space. Since its inception in 1994, MUNI staffers have gone on to hold esteemed positions in government, the corporate world, and academia.
